Reagecon takes on issues affecting Public Health

Avian Flu and Cryptosporidium targeted at Largest Laboratory Exhibition in Ireland

Shannon, April 4th 2006: Reagecon, one of Ireland’s foremost chemical measurement and laboratory equipment specialists, co - hosted “Fisher Science World” Ireland’s largest laboratory exhibition, on March 30th with Fisher Scientific in Croke Park, Dublin.

The day long exhibition - a first to be held in Ireland - focused on the key issues faced by those involved in the purchase or specification of laboratory products. Over thirty equipment manufacturers exhibited at the event, along with an informative programme of seminars being held. The event provided an opportunity for delegates to learn about key threats affecting public health, view new technology & products and network with colleagues.

The programme of seminars proved to be very informative for delegates. Seminar speakers represented a number of policy makers and specialist disciplines e.g. Preventative Medicine Veterinary Faculty UCD, Pollution Control & Veterinary Services Westmeath Co. Council, Central Laboratory Dublin City Council, Kingston Hospital London, Applied Biosystems UK and Reagecon. The key topics covered were Early Monitoring Signs of Avian Flu (Bird Flu), Cryptosporidium: An Emerging Disease in the Human Population and Topics in Cellular Pathology – all that have an impact on the Irish population.

Speaking on the exhibition John Barron, managing director of Reagecon, commented “We are delighted at the response to this exhibition. On the day valuable information was shared among various groups and this provides all with a draft blueprint on how to address a number of serious issues. In particular, the growing concern over Bird Flu, currently in phase 3, which marks the beginning of the "pandemic alert period" and the increase of Cryptosporidium in our waterways highlights the need for vigilant monitoring and sampling procedures in Ireland”.

Continuing John Barron stated “This exhibition provided Reagecon with the opportunity to launch our new innovative Sampling Product range, which is a result of substantial R&D investment. Reagecon hopes that this product range will increase the reliability and decrease the causes of contamination with the sampling process. We would hope this exhibition is the beginning of an annual forum for knowledge sharing and debate, one which will contribute greatly to monitoring public health threats”.
